Every family has it`s mysteries and "skeletons in the cupboard". It used to be far more common than today for children to be orphaned or for one parent to die and the other not be able to cope. Children were farmed out to different relatives and were often unsure who their real parents were. Relatives disappeared and no one was sure where they went. I am sure you can think of many instances in your own families, where things were not quite normal, but you would never dare to ask about it.
Many of these mysteries can be solved, often quite easily, with a few hours of research. If you have anything in mind, please let me know and I will have a look.
Perhaps you have been doing your own research and things have become a bit confused or you have come to a dead end. Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes can bring clarity to the situation. You may, in fact, have reached a dead end, but a second opinion can confirm your findings.
I would give a word of warning here. You may have found a family tree on Ancestry or some other genealogy site, that you think is part of your family. Be very cautious, in my experience a large proportion of these trees are contain errors and some of them are obviously very wrong.
You may not necessarily want to research one name, but may want to know about all your great grandparents, so that you have a broader idea of where you come from and what makes you tick.
There may be a story in your family that one of your ancestors was famous or even infamous. I had such a story in my own family, that my great grandfather had killed a policeman. Fortunately the story was not quite right, but there was some truth in it. It was very satisfying to let the wider family know the truth.
I would also welcome the oportunity to carry out probate research for solicitors or heir hunters.
These are just a few research ideas you might want to pursue, you might have your own ideas. Please give me a call I am happy to have a chat at any time.
