I have lived in the beautiful county of Northumberland all my life and worked as a civil servant in Newcastle for many years.
I am not sure when my curiosity about my ancestors began, but about 25 years ago I decided to do something about it. I have researched several lines of my family, which has taken me on a journey all over Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire and Cumbria. It has also taken me to Hampshire, Bristol, Scotland and Ireland and Australia.
About 10 years ago I took a course at Newcastle University and gained a Certificate in Family History.
Over the last few years, as well as continuing to add to my own families’ histories, I have become involved with helping friends and relatives and realised that I got as much enjoyment out of researching other people’s personal heritage as my own. I love the challenge of uncovering real stories from the past and real lives.
